Like every good job it all started with a simple sketch, and although I have a tablet I suck at drawing directly in the computer, so I draw first in paper and then make the lineart with my tablet.
Then I started doing the lineart with Manga Studio this time, I like how you can make the lines end up in a perfect tip with this sofware. I do photoshop linearts as well, but I was just testing something new.
Then I imported it to photoshop and started adding the base colours (even white) in different layers each, and of course not worring about the shadows yet, it is recomendable to do this even with traditional media: watercolours, oil paintings, acrylics, etc. Trust me.
Now, the shadows and highlights can be added to make it look more like the anime. To do this I use the photoshop's pen tool, with it I draw where the shadow should be and fill it with the colour. This way they look sharpen like in the anime.
After you do this you can do as many details as you want, in this case I just coloured the eyes with not too many details (I had left them for the end), I like to keep it simple.
Just to finish I just made a very simple halftone background, I think it ended up looking very sweet. If you want to see the full size image please visit:
